About the artwork

The artist was living in a rural village in Toyama when he first visited the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial in 2000. He stayed in Oshirakura, conducted interviews, and filmed delicate images of water, from the sounds of raindrops to beads of dew on taro leaves. This is a village that has lived together with water. Initially the artist had planned a large-scale installation. Yet after returning home and reviewing the films and the village people’s stories over and over again, he changed it to a simple form in order to help the audience focus on the images on the screen.
