The “barter project,” which has been conducted by Tomoko Ushioda since 2000, was also done this time. It became a joint production with members of the Sakaguchi Laboratory of Tokyo University of Art with the hope to pass the project on to a young generation. Ushioda drew portraits of 90 people from the Shimo-nunokawa area while Sakaguchi team members exhibited drawings, objets, installations and video under the theme of the relationship between nature and people in Matsunoyama. During the Triennial, local high school students played various roles, from the house’slocking and unlocking to video equipment operation.
