A gyro is an object by which one can easily experience phenomena produced by the rotation of the earth, thus enabling one to play freely with the power of nature. When a wheel is turned by hand and it moves with handlebars, a strong gyro effect works on the wheel, producing a repelling force. The gyro is a marvelous object with its ability to use this force to draw out endless motion. Participants in the workshop were to take familiar objects such as bicycles apart and reconstruct them into new forms as artworks. Through the fun and excitement of discovery, the workshop was to provide participants with a chance to become interested in the earth, where power exists in the environment and nature that is right around us as we play. Gyro is a public work intended to bring contemporary art and its viewers colser together by changing viewers into participants.
