Harvesting connections: The Green Room Project blossoms through community engagement
Initiated in 2006 and sustained since 2012 within the current premises, the Green Room Project has flourished. Employing the technique of “frottage,” the artist captures the essence of local communities, immortalizing memories onto artworks. In Echigo-Tsumari, residents and visitors alike are invited to participate in the project, using green-coloured pencils and the frottage technique to transform fallen leaves into verdant imprints. This collaborative artwork has fostered tangible bonds between the art and the local community, as well as among visitors and residents. As the current building nears the end of its lifecycle, all rooms featured in the project will unite to form the “Green House,” serving as a culmination of the project’s journey.
