Goat House Project

About the artwork

The artist wanted to turn the weeds and vegetable wastes not consumed by humans into feed for goats and to utilize the excrement and energy left in them for rice crops. This project is an attempt to help “think about food and agriculture and feel life.” Since 2003, a series of workshops were held, from keeping a real goat, “Shiro-chan,” to building a house, making a farm, making compost, planting and harvesting rice, and making cheese. The hard labor and caring of the artist and local people have borne fruit and “Shiro-chan” became a fine grown-up goat.
