While gazing at the sky over Tokamachi, I came up with an idea of flying Tokamachi’s sky.In the studio-exhibition space, I installed flying objects that drew seven different types of Tokamachi sky and photographs of the actual Tokamachi sky. I sought collaborators who would fly the Tokamachi sky from among visitors to the Triennial. Each Tokamachi sky is taken by one of the people who volunteered and is flown “somewhere.” That sky “somewhere” and the Tokamachi sky thus meet. The volunteers inform me by mail where the sky was flown, and then I mark the spot with a pin on the installaiton’s map. I wanted to make the flying activity visible by preparing an interface that allowed for feeling the flying object and the flying activity itself, in order to make flying into an artwork.
