About the artwork

A great earthenware pot was set in place in the grounds of the Kiwadahara community center. One meter in diameter, the enormous pot was created from Echigo-Tsumari clay. An event was held in which rice was actually cooked in the pot to make rice balls of the finest quality, filled with miso preserves made by local residents. Wrapped in bamboo leaves, these were then distributed to visitors. In a large crowd they surrounded the fire to make a meal together, and through the act of eating together created a bond from person to person. [Technical Assistance: Yasuo Terada]
