Masuko Emi pours her formative power into this work. The notable folds and curves of the bags draw the eye, but the softness produced from the plastic clay and supple life of the objects do not go amiss. The traditional Japanese patterns so vividly decorative seem as if dyed into the clay’s skin. This too is the artist’s signature. Tsumari soil is transformed into the sandals and footwear gracing the feet of their flamboyant owners. Their rich features tell the noisy, but lively tale.
