About the artwork

We are living in turbulent times. The world is divided as symbolized by the collapse of the global environment and the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, the growing number of refugees exceeds 110 million, and one in ten of the population is starving. Globalization is accelerating, with more than 1.4 billion international travelers per year, and developments in AI, digitalization, and science and technology are asking us questions about “what it means to be human” and “what it means to live”.In such a world, how do artists react and create artworks using their intuition and physiology? Can art open up this exclusive world?
The 9th Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale started with the slogan “The Art of Hospitality”. Launched in 2016 as the Setouchi Asia Forum, the Asia Forum has been held at the Setouchi Triennale and the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, and we would like to listen to the voices of artists who are connected beyond national borders.
