About the artwork

The artist recognized the importance of the social nature of clothing fabric, when she encountered kimono fabric, which is a product of the traditional industry in the Echigo region. The artist reviewed the historic and regional characteristics and spirituality of clothing fabric from the perspective of manufacturing methods and patterns. Finally, she fashioned T-shirts using kimono fabric from Tokamachi, and exhibited them in Kinare. Many Kohebi Squad members wore the T-shirts as they hurried around the Tsumari region during the Triennial.
