Tsumari clay contains much iron, lacks plasticity and viscosity, and has low heat resistance, but the artist took up the challenge to fire a rectangle, a shape that easily warps. Dividing the large rectangle into nine parts to make squares, oblongs and triangles, he then added geometric designs and applied iron glaze to create this strange contrast. Individual pieces when gathered together make up the structure of the original rectangle, but the artist gives it another purpose, to serve as a brazier to provide warmth.
