About the artwork

In a classroom where no one is supposed to be, you see the shadow of a person sitting on a chair. Is this the figure of a child who used to attend the school, now closed? Or is it one of the students, now grown up? Or perhaps it is our own form… The shadow that emerges from the nondescript piece of wood is elaborate. The artist has created works that show the silhouette of the human form: people without substance, and whose existence cannot be measured. “I imagined a human presence sitting quietly next to me as I created this.” (Kumi Yamashita)
