About the artwork

On the way from my workplace to my house, I was surprised to find a building being taken down. I could not recall what had been there. Finally, I realized that it used to be a public bath. There are things whose value we only realize after they are lost, even though, somehow, they have always been there, and there are chance encounters that become important memories. By the Window Tokamachi Version was shown on windows of Tokamachi Station fifty days. Of course, the window is now continuing to fulfill their original function. I hope that the project will simulate new meanings, when people using the station look up the windows and, even after the project is over, visualize the project’s images overlapping with the actual sight of the windows. As in the case of the happy scenes that the Little Match Girl in Hans Christian Andersen’s story saw in the flames, I believe that the destiny and importance of the work lies there.
