First, the central artwork, titled “Stairs for Viewing Memory, or Myself Ascending Through Time Toward the Ground,” features two sacred-tree-like trees (a Japanese snowbell and a beech) raised 6 meters into the air, along with a long staircase leading up to them; it tells a story of the physical sensation of creation experienced when building a shrine.Four installations will be placed at the four corners of the park, each inspired by various connections between the land of the Kamo district and this site (allegories born from the encounter between the compass directions and myself: East—wisteria flowers, West—claws, South—birds from the south, North—meteorites). The aim is to once again invite the invisible world into view within the reality of this place. The park is a miniature version of the universe, and the inner world of the park serves as a mirror image of the external universe. Furthermore, as a botanical garden—a record of living things’ growth—this space will continue to be created and transformed.
