Once, as symbolized by “thousand-stitch belts,* ” women used to entrust their inexpressible feelings to each tiny stitch they made. In the summer, when green ears of rice wave under the strong sunshine, we communicate with the homecoming spirits. The artist hoped to create a space for thinking of the other shore using the “power of needles” of the village women. Old clothes gathered in the village were dyed red and the women tore them up, one by one and made ropes. It became a space where one could feel the presence of a great power created by the collection of these handiworks.* “thousand-stitch belts” were made during the war.
