For several years, I have been working on spherical pieces. My work for the Triennial was an extension of that recent work. On five spheres I presented, I recorded names of places around the world in random order. I like names, especially place names. Then I carved the names of places ― Al-Elg, Gaza, Ramallah, Lima, Tombouctou, Minnesota, Ezuriko, Bucharest, Nancy, and Kuji, to name a few ― on five spheres. There were two reasons to choose a primary school as the location for installing the work. First, I wanted the work to become a playing for the children, and second, I hoped that the children’s names would be inscribed on my work. The work was completed with the children’s help. It was my first experience with others participating in the creation of my work, and I feel pleased that the participants were 58 shoolchildren.
