For several years now, I have been presenting artworks using spheres. This artwork is an extension of that practice. Five spheres bear randomly inscribed place names from around the world. I have a particular fondness for names, especially place names. I engraved those land names onto the five spheres. Al-Elg, Gaza, Ramallah, Lima, Tombouctou, Minnesota, Ezuriko, Bucharest, Nancy, Kuji—the list goes on and on.I chose an elementary school as the installation site because I wanted these spheres to become playthings and hoped the children’s names would remain in my artwork. With the children’s cooperation, the artwork was completed. This was my first collaborative artwork involving others, and I am delighted that 58 elementary school students participated.
