Standing in an empty lot near the Hoku-Hoku Line station, I thought about my plan. The terraced rice fields on the mountains are beautiful. Five large artworks by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov show farmers working. The bright yellow and blue make a strong statement. I decided to create an artwork for viewing this scenery from the roof of the Matsudai NO BUTAI. I convinced myself that a work that functions as a chair would create a new space between the sky and land. I made a line of chairs, setting Love, a chair in which two people face each other, in the center and Five Legged Race on the right and left. To reach the roof, where everything is totally white, with a bare steel frame and white artificial turf, we had to hoist up the works with cranes. I hope that we have many visitors who come to see our works and enjoy nature’s beauty and that they will sit on my work and experience the sky and land as seen from the work. Truly, “Human Beings Are Part of Nature.”
