About the artwork

The artist bought the over 100-year-old farmhouse seventeen years ago and renovate the house into a small art space in collaboration with Mikangumi (architect unit) and other contemporary artists. The house presents about a couple of dozens of collections of BankART1929 as permanent works. Staff members from BankART stay at the venue during the festival and run workshops with invited instructors.

■BankART Tsumari 2024“Creative Restoration and Dialogue”
Exploring Innovative Solutions for House Preservation
In 2005, a century-old farmhouse underwent transformation into a quaint art space through collaboration between the architectural team “”Mikangumi”” and artists. Known as the “”Kiriyama House”” and overseen by BankART in Yokohama, the structure has faced gradual deterioration from earthquakes and snow. In response, the focus shifts towards “”creative repairs”” rather than extensive renovations to extend the lifespan of the house. Additionally, as part of the exhibition, photographs by Takao Hashimoto, a resident of Kiriyama since 2023, will be showcased in the garden shed. Workshops and discussion events are also slated during the festival.
