This is a long-term project launched by volunteers from Nagoya Zokei University to integrate art and design into a medical environment. Programs encouraging the participation of doctors, nurses, patients, local residents, and hospitals outside the area have been held, as well as a monthly study group, attended by hospital staff and members of the project. Artworks were displayed inside the hospital, and 70 mini-galleries were set up in front of the wards. A vacant house nearby, named “Yasashii ie” (House of Kindness), was used as a gallery and workshop space. Through “Yasashii ie,” a sense of bonding and cooperation was built between the hospital and the local community, and hospital patients seem to have developed a special feeling toward the house.
