A place to pass down the fundamental life skills for survival passed down in Akiyama
Suzuki Baku completed “Hokuetsu Setsubo” and “Akiyama Kiko” in the late Edo period, introducing the lives of people in snow country and mountain dwellers. This was innovative work recording and disseminating the living culture outside the capital before the establishment of folklore studies.Even today, many influenced by Baku continue to be inspired to research and document Akiyama’s folk culture, as if writing sequels to ‘Akiyama Travel Notes'” (Author’s comment). Since 2022, the editorial office has been opened as “a place to share the sense of commons in Akiyama, its bricolage-like way of life, and to speak of things deliberately left untold until now,” by an author conducting research in Akiyama-go.
