Torii Ayumi

Japan

Born in Kanagawa in 1991, graduated from Sculpture Major, Department of Fine Arts after Tokyo Zokei University. Since childhood, the artist had a strong desire to interact with animals, but due to being allergic to them, it was never realized. The longing, however, continued to grow. From such feelings, the artist has been creating stone sculptures of animals that viewers can directly touch. Despite the inanimate image often associated with stones, they are unique materials that have spent long years in various environments, revealing different expressions with each touch. Stone is a challenging and irreversible material to work with, but facing it with determination sometimes brings a warmth as if life has been imbued into it. Additionally, the artist aspires to create an outdoor zoo where people can freely touch or even ride animals that the artist has sculpted in the future. Exhibitions include:
2013: “Ubugoe: Ayumi Suzuki Sculpture Exhibition” (monogallery, Kichijoji, 2013)
2015: Oiso Outdoor Art Exhibition (Former Residence of Yoshida Shigeru, Oiso Joyama Koen 2016-2020: “Midori to Michi no Art Exhibition” (Kurokawa Satoyama Art Project)
