ZA ONDEKOZA

Japan

Formed in 1969 on Sado Island by a group of young people under the concept of the late Tagayasu Den. At the core of their activities is the “So-raku-ron (running is fun theory)” which asserts that “running and music are inseparable, reflecting the drama and energy of life.” In 1975, after completing the Boston Marathon in the United States, they made a remarkable debut by ascending to the stage and playing a large taiko drum, measuring 144 cm. This was followed by collaborations with the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Seiji Ozawa, marking the beginning of their activities around the world. Since 2001, they have been involved in various activities, not only in music but also in contemporary art and themes of coexistence with nature, participating in art festivals such as the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale and the Setouchi Triennale.
