Born in 1961and resides in South Africa. Vander Merwe works on materials he finds on site and creates artworks as a land art artist. Sculptural forms take shape in relation to the landscape. It is a process of working with the natural environment by using what is found on site and then shaping these elements into geometric forms until they gradually integrate with the natural environment again. Depending on the purpose of the exhibition or the conditions of a commission, the artist also uses
materials that are brought into the site and creates artworks under the theme of relations between humans and place.
