Sotome Kaoru

Japan

Born in Tochigi in 1996, graduated from Akita University of Art with a degree in Visual Arts in 2019, and completed the master’s program in sculpture at Graduate School of Fine Arts Master’s Course at Aichi Prefectural University in 2024. The main theme of the artist’s work is a sense of crisis towards passively accepting commonplace occurrences. The artist feels that trying to see invisible things by squinting one’s eyes is similar to expanding one’s imagination. By creating works that are difficult to see, the artist aim to have people “look closely” and attempt a reconsideration of overlooked discomfort.
