Hikashu: Members: Makigami Koichi (Vocals, Cornet, Theremin, Shakuhachi), Mita Chojin (Guitar), Sakade Masami (Bass), Shimizu Kazuto (Piano, Synthesizer), Sato Shoji (Drums) Formed in 1978, Hikashu is the genre-defying music unit, Hikashu, initially gained recognition as pioneers of New Wave and Techno Pop. Later they became widely acknowledged as a unique group blending exceptional improvisation and a distinctive worldview. In recent years, they continue to gain followers from younger generations, with numerous reissues of their past works Their live performances, where each member showcases their individuality freely, are awe-inspiring. Since their first overseas performance in former East Berlin in 1991, Hikashu has embarked on twelve international tours, performed live in a total of 30 cities. Their collaboration with Tabaimo garnered attention in the album “Uragoe” (2012). Following performances in four Canadian cities in 2014, they released their 21st album, “Bankan,” recorded in New York and generated attention through a collaborative mini-album with Chara-Po-Rantan titled “Chakra Hiraki”. In 2015, they released the album “Ikitekoi Chinmoku,” created during their journey to the Altai Republic. In the spring of 2016, they collaborated with Inoue Makoto and Charan-Po-Rantan for the live performance called “Godzilla Legend” featuring film music for films composed by Ifukube Akira at the Japan Society in New York.The same members recorded an album, released by King Records. In 2017, they released the album “Anguri”, followed by CD/DVD “Zekkei.” In 2019, celebrating their 40th anniversary, they released “Hikashu Best Songs in the 20th Century” and “Hikashu Best Songs in the 21st Century. Amid the pandemic in 2020, they released “Nariyamazu” recorded in Estonia. Furthermore, in 2021, they released “Niji Kara Niji e (From rainbow to rainbow)” with a jacket illustration by manga artist Sakabashira Imiri and they have been consistently producing new works almost every year. Celebrating their 45th anniversary in 2023, they held a 2-day live performance at Shibuya CLUB QUATTRO. In the 8th iteration of Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (2022), they presented a stage performance titled “Singing ‘Kabakov’s Dream,'” inspired by the works of Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, leading to the release of the album “Kumo o Ayatsuru” (2023).
