Began artistic activities in Kyoto in the 1970s. The artist has held many solo exhibitions in Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo, and other cities since 1976. Specialises in creating unique kinetic art by merging stillness and motion, using metals and magnets as primary materials. Consistently presented installations themed around local nature and culture at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (2009-) as well as Setouchi Triennale (2012-). The artist has also participated in outdoor sculpture exhibitions such as Sculpture by the Sea Bondi (Sydney) and Sculpture by the Sea Cottesloe (Perth) since 2006. Awarded the grand prize at the 15th Japan International Art Exhibition, Tokyo Biennale (1984), the grand prize at the 17th UBE Biennale International Sculpture Competition (1997), and an excellent prize at the 29th Teijiro Nakahara Award (1988).
