Born in 1944 in Paris, France. One of the most internationally acclaimed contemporary artists. Since the release of a short-film in 1968 and participation in the Documenta (Kassel, Germany) in 1972, Boltanski has presented his works across the globe exploring memories of groups and individuals as well as existence and absence as main themes of his practice. The artist has established deep connection to Japan through his first solo exhibition in Japan at ICA, Nagoya and Art Tower Mito 1990/91 as well as participation in the art festivals including Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, and Setouchi Triennale since 2000 to the present. Recent solo shows have been at Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum (2016) and The National Museum of Art, Osaka, The National Art Center, Tokyo, Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum (2019-2020). His work can be found in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Tate Gallery, and The Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
