Christiaans Bastiaans
Born in Amsterdam, 1951, lives and works there. Bastiaans’ art projects lay bare the structure of society through the presentation of intricate multi-layered installations.
The dominant theme in his work is that of the human body, the body without its protective skin. Bastiaans endows the body with an infinitude of connotations and
associations, represented time and again in all kinds of transformations. He confronts us with the colonial body, the dissected body, the body as a wound, as a war
machine, and as a commodity that appears in images linked to the themes of war, displacement, and the global market.
