This guided tour starts and finishes at Echigo-Yuzawa station. It will take participants to "The Last Class", one of the most popular artworks of ETAT, as well as a very unique artwork in Misashima station. The tour offers a perfect introduction for first-time visitors as well as solo participants.

10:50 A large scale installation occupying the entire closed school
"The Last Class" by Christian Boltanski and Jean Kalman
The artwork enclosed the memories of the closed primary school which stands in the region covered with a thick blanket of snow for more than half of the year. Visitors will be immersed in the world of the artwork created by contemporary artist and light artist.

Kyororo (designed by Tezuka Takaharu / Tezuka Yui)
Kyororo standing adjacent to the beech tree forest called Bijinbayashi, is a natural science museum featuring the nature of satoyama in Matsunoyama in the heavy snowfall region. Visitors can enjoy both art and surrounding nature.
"Les Regards" by Christian Boltanski
The new and the last work for ETAT by Christian Boltanski is the installation presented in the forest. Visitors can wander through the installation, remembering the artist who passed away in July 2021.

NUNAGAWA Campus
Old Nunagawa Primary School stands as if it is a local school for people of diverse backgrounds. In addition to artworks by artists of Japan and beyond occupying the school building, it is also the home of FC Echigo-Tsumari, a female football team born as a part of ETAT.

Tour participants can enjoy an exclusive lunch using lots of local ingredients which menu is created in consultation with chef Yonezawa Fumio at TSUMARI KITCHEN.

Matsudai Nohbutai
One of the ETAT hub facilities in which the entire building and rooms themselves are artworks. Re-opened in the summer of 2021 after renovation, you can enjoy art as you feel and appreciate the surrounding nature and local lifestyle.

"JIKU #013 HOKUHOKU-LINE" by Panoramatiks/Saito Seiichi
Panoramatiks, a spun-off company from Rhizomatiks, was established for creating and implementing alternative social and industrial structures. Using light and sound, this interactive work reveals the founding grids of the region that have disappeared as the urban development has advanced as well as the significance and energy of connecting different regions.

15:00 A story of Shinza and a new tatami chair
"Note to myself: For days when I will take a seat on a new tatami chair" by Nakazaki Tohru
The artwork started to take shape when the artist placed his beloved and broken tatami chair in the space of the abandoned house of a wealthy farmer in Shinza area.

15:30 Re-opened with new artworks in summer 2021 - an iconic museum in the region
Museum on Echigo-Tsumari, MonET
The museum re-opened with many new permanent collections in the summer of 2021. A series of special memorial exhibitions featuring ETAT participating artists who passed away in recent years are held during ETAT2022.
