Richard Deacon "Mountain"
“Strangely, the idea came from an accident of photography. I was making a series of frameworks, complex forms constructed from thick tubes of clay. I began taking their photographs, interested in the complexity of one shape seen through another, then began playing around with the images I had of the Swiss Alps and of the tubes, cutting and pasting one on top of the other. Just around then, the triennial director came and showed me the images of Echigo-Tsumari, a beautiful place overlooking a valley with a distant view of a mountain. Of course Echigo-Tsumari is not Switzerland, but the seed of my idea had been planted.” (Richard Deacon)

The volcanic rocks on the first floor glow red, and blue light illuminates the rice planting tools on the second floor as they spin in the wind. In the back room, a red circle floating in midair becomes the sun, guiding light into the house.
